A Mel Brooks classic is heading to the Kansas City Kansas Community College stage this week.

A Mel Brooks classic is heading to the Kansas City Kansas Community College stage this week.

“Young Frankenstein” follows the story of Frederick Von Frankenstein, who has inherited his grandfather’s estate in Transylvania. The question remains – will the young Frankenstein follow in the family business and create his own monster? The musical is based off the Mel Brooks 1974 film of the same name, written by both Brooks and Gene Wilder. It is being presented at KCKCC through special arrangement with Music Theatre International.

“Young Frankenstein” is at 7:30 p.m. Oct. 12, 13 and 14. There is also a matinee performance at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 15. All performances are in the KCKCC Performing Arts Center, 7250 State Ave. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for senior citizens and non-KCKCC students. All KCKCC students, staff and faculty are admitted free with valid identification.

“We have a great group of talented young actors this year,” said Charles Leader, director of the production. “Frederick and Igor are both played by freshmen. Add to that faculty members Dagney Velazquez, as Frau Blucher (playing her own violin), and Sheldon Guenther as the Hermit, and you have a surefire hit.”

The cast includes – Sheridan Smith, Dr. Frederick Frankenstein; Gary Enrique Bradley-Lopez, the Monster; Caleb Chipman, Igor; Nicole Brunetti, Inga; DeKara Ashley, Elizabeth Benning; Dagney Velazquez, Frau Blucher; Oscar Alvarez-Alonso, Inspector Hans Kemp; Sheldon Guenther, the Hermit; Jamel Toliver, Dr. Victor Von Frankenstein and Michael LeDesma, Ziggy.
