Wyandotte County Ethnic Festival

    Sat, Apr 14, 2018 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM
  • How to find us: Field House / KCKCC Main Campus

WYCO Ethnic Festival is a community event to promote relationships and contact between people, and educate each other about our common humanity.

We expect around 1,000 festival goers with at least 50 organizations, countries and ethnicities from Wyandotte County represented at booths and onstage entertainment. Clarence Small is our wonderful master of ceremonies.  Last year we honored Eyyup Esen of the Dialogue Institute of Southwest, and Barbara Clark-Evans with the prestigious Legends of Diversity award.

This year we will feature a large tent outside in front of the field house with a fully equipped French campsite set in the 17th Century colonial era with duo presentations featuring Timothy Kent on fur trade history.

Ethnic dance groups with beautiful choreography and costume will include the Nartan Dancers of India, West of Marrakesh, Chinese Dancers, Sabor a Peru Dancers, Tikvah Dancers of Israel, Los Bailadores Mexican Dancers, S.V. Blautaler German Dance, and the ever popular Danny Hinds & Ayotunde Barbados Drumming and Dance.

Live music includes performances by the internationally renowned Havartski Obicaj Croatian Orchestra; Shawn and Gloria Derritt singing American the Beautiful, Deepa Realite Reggae Band, Allen Arias with his own flavor of Costa Rican guitar, cajon and voice; Roger Suggs, a nationally recognized hip-hop artist; Tez and Tam Gospel Music, , and many others.

The Creative Children's Corner often features multicultural educational themes.  The area is coordinated by KCKCC's Intercultural Center Director, Barbara Clark-Evans, and Dr. Hira Nair, Coordinator of the KCKCC Education Program.

The food court offers delicious dishes from India, Peru, Naturally Designed, West African cuisine, Kenya, and Mexico.  Filtered water and mint tea are available for free.

Everyone attending the festival receives a souvenir program with blank passport pages. These can be stamped at any culture booth and once filled can be used to enter a drawing for five great prizes.

This event is sponsored by KCKCC, the United Government of KCK Human Services Department, El Centro, KKFI 90.1 FM, 2mas2KC, Imagine! Magic Productions, and Burke Travel Inc.

There is still time to register (see attachment for flyer and registration) for the festival if you have an interest in having an educational booth, entertainment, or food venue.  See our website for more information:

We very much look forward to meeting new friends and welcome back those who enjoy the feeling of inclusivity that our festival provides.  Peace and agape love!
