Instructions for International Student Admissions

Kansas City Kansas Community College has been approved by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services as a school that can grant I-20’s. An international student interested in enrolling at KCKCC must have the following papers on file to be considered for admission.

Steps for completing the international student admission application process.

  1. Complete an international student application for admission and pay the $85.00 fee. The application must be completed on both sides, have all questions answered, and include your signature and date. All materials submitted become the property of KCKCC and will not be returned. Faxed, scanned or emailed documents or photocopies will not be processed.

  2. Complete the Affidavit of Financial Support and have it Notarized or Attested.
    1. Include bank certification and official statement of sponsorship of finances stated in U.S. dollars. An applicant may not rely on expectations of employment to supplement funds from home.
    2. The applicant’s sponsor must submit on your behalf an original bank letter, on official letterhead, signed by a bank official stating [Sponsor’s Name] has held an account with [Financial Institution’s Name] since [date account(s) was/were opened] and has a current balance in excess of $18,850.00 USD in funds available for educational sponsorship of [Student’s Name].
    3. Students receiving financial support from a sponsoring agency, home government, etc. must have the sponsor provide a letter outlining the dollar amount of support per year, the period of the time covered by the award and procedures for payment.
    4. Financial information can not be more than 2 months old at the time of the application deadline.
    5. An award letter or financial form issued to attend another institution is not accepted at KCKCC.

  3. Official/Attested High School/Secondary School Transcript and/or Leaving School Certificate - Applicants must provide official documentation from their home country showing subjects taken, rank in class, yearly examination results, minimum passing marks, maximum passing marks, and date of graduation. Graduation from a secondary school must be equivalent to the 12th grade in the United States. Only the original documents or certified copies sent directly to KCKCC from the school/or National Exam Council are acceptable.

    An official English translation must accompany the original document when scores/results are listed in any language other than English.

  4. TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) Score. Students whose first language is not English are required to provide an official TOEFL score of 520 or above on the paper test or 190 or above on the computerized test to be admitted to the college to take academic coursework. All TOEFL scores must be less than two years old by the expected date of enrollment at KCKCC.

    have official transcripts documenting 12 hours of college level work with a 2.5 GPA or higher demonstrating English proficiency from an American university or college.

  5. Provide proof of health insurance. International students will be required to purchase insurance once they enroll, if they do not have insurance from their home country.

  6. Complete the medical form and submit a TB test.

  7. Pay the tuition deposit of $1000.00. The deposit is required before and I-20 will be issued. The deposit will be applied to the student’s first semester tuition and will be refunded if an F1 Visa is not received.

  8. Students will also need to pay the SEVIS I-901 fee of $100.00. This fee should be paid after receiving the KCKCC 1-20. The fee must be paid prior to the visa interview.     TRANSFER APPLICANTS

    A transfer applicant is any student (on a valid 1-20) who has or will have completed one or more semesters at another U.S. college/ university before attending KCKCC. In addition to the items listed above for new students, students transferring from another college/university in the U.S. must also submit the following:

    1. International Student Transfer Form: This must be completed by the applicant and signed by the Foreign Student Advisor at the institution of current enrollment.

    2. Official College Transcript: Transfer students must have a cumulative G.P.A. of at least 2.00 and be in good student standing to be considered for acceptance to KCKCC. Transcripts/grade cards and a copy of your current class schedule are required prior to acceptance and will be part of the review process. After an 1-20 has been issued, transfer students must have official college/university transcripts sent directly to the Admissions Office from each U.S. institution. Hand carried copies will not the accepted. Transcripts from foreign universities are not required.

      Additional Notes: Transfer students are required to complete a minimum of 15 hours at KCKCC to be awarded an associate degree.

    APPLICATION DEADLINES

    Your application will be reviewed only if all academic records, financial certifications, TOEFL test results and KCKCC forms are completed fully, accurately, and legibly. Deadline dates are as follow:

    NEW 1-20 STUDENTS: Fall semester June 1
    Spring semester October 1
    TRANSFER STUDENTS: Fall semester August 1
    Spring semester December 1

     

    It is mandatory that each I-20 (F-1Visa) student enroll in and successfully complete with a “C” or better, a minimum of 12 credit hours each spring and fall semester.

    ***If these conditions are not met, you will be considered out-of-status.***


    CORRESPONDENCE

    The name on the application for admission will be used on the I-20 and all correspondence being sent to the student. When Admission is granted, a letter of acceptance and your I-20 will be mailed to you.

    FOREIGN CREDENTIAL EVALUATIONS

    If you plan to pursue a degree at Kansas City Kansas Community College and want your foreign transcript/credential(s) to be evaluated for US college credit follow the instructions below.

    *The KCKCC Board of Trustees has the right to change tuition and fees without notice. Some courses may require course fees in addition to tuition. These course fees are listed in the class schedule each semester. All tuition and fees must be paid at the time of enrollment.

    All application materials submitted for admission to the college become the property of KCKCC and cannot be returned. KCKCC does not honor requests for waiving admission requirements. An applicant who submits altered and/or falsified admission information will not be accepted; if they have already enrolled in classes they will be academically dismissed.
