Pre-Respiratory Therapy

Pre-Respiratory Therapy Course Descriptions

Dean: Dr. Shirley Wendel

Curriculum pathway leading to an Associate in Science in Liberal Arts and Sciences for students transferring into the following 4-year program.

Note: Students should observe the "See course description" footnotes that appear throughout the following programs. Many courses in these programs have prerequisites or are offered only during certain semesters or at certain times.

These programs provide students with their basic education and prepare them to transfer to a four-year college.

Students may complete either the KCKCC Certified Respiratory Therapist Program or the KCKCC Registered Respiratory Therapist Program and then transfer to the University of Kansas for baccalaureate degree completion.** As an alternative, students may complete 60 hours in general education and science at KCKCC. During the third semester, students should apply to the Respiratory Therapy Program Director at the University of Kansas Medical Center where clinical training and respiratory therapy courses are taken. Students are accepted to KUMC in late May or early June.

The Associate in Science Degree meets the Board of Regents Transfer and Articulation Agreement. A Student completing this program and transferring to a public university, therefore, "will be accepted as having satisfied the general education requirements of all Kansas public universities."

Since the transferability of courses will vary depending on the specific four-year institution, it is strongly recommended that if students are intending to transfer to four-year institutions, they must consult with the transfer institution and with their respective KCKCC advisors before enrolling in order to determine the transferability of their courses. It is the student’s responsibility to determine the transferability of his/her courses.
