Nursing/Registered Nurse (RN, ASN, BSN, MSN)
LPN to RN Articulation Program
Nursing/Registered Nurse (RN, ASN, BSN, MSN) Course Descriptions
General Information
Dean: Dr. Shirley Wendel
Director of Nursing: Anita Krondak
Clinical Coordinator: Judy Ingrasin
The Nursing Department is committed to providing a student learning environment that encourages and assesses critical thinking, clinical competence, professional accountability and effective communication skills. We believe these attributes will prepare our graduates to pass the RN - NCLEX, and to manage and provide safe, cost-effective care to meet client needs by coordinating, supervising and/or collaborating with members of the multidisciplinary health care team.
Students who need information regarding tuition, fees, and length of the nursing program may contact the Dean of Allied Health/Nursing at the College and/or the Nursing Accrediting Commission at the following address: National League for Nursing Accrediting Council, 61 Broadway, New York, N.Y. 10006. The Accrediting Council's telephone number is (800)-669-1656.
The nursing program is designed to prepare students to function as entry-level registered nurses. Course work is directed toward assisting graduates to pass the National Council of Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses. The program is approved by the Kansas State Board of Nursing and accredited by the National League for Nursing Accrediting Council. Applications are due August 31st for the spring semester and January 31st for the fall semester. For specific criteria and procedures for admission, consult Sandy Lane, Nursing Advisor, or Anita Krondak, Director of Nursing
Students must complete 73 hours for the degree plus the 1-2-hour Orientation Course and earn a minimum C grade in all course work in order to graduate. (See the section on course descriptions for more specific information).
General Information
Students applying for admission to the Nursing Program must comply with regular requirements for admission to the college and meet criteria indicating ability to succeed in nursing courses. Contact the Counselor for Health Programs or the Allied Health/Nursing Division for early admission criteria and application procedures.
Fees for the Nursing program may be found in the fee section of the KCKCC College Catalog.
In order to participate in clinical activities, students need to purchase uniforms, carry liability insurance, meet certain medical requirements, and provide personal transportation to hospitals and health agencies. The faculty has developed a conceptual framework from the concepts of client needs, nursing intervention classifications and nursing outcome classifications. Each course emphasizes growth and development, communication, the nursing process, nutrition and diet therapy, pharmacology, management, and legal and ethical issues.
Students must complete courses at each level with a grade of C or better before being allowed to enroll in courses at the next level.
Since the transferability of courses will vary depending on the specific four-year institution, it is strongly recommended that if students are intending to transfer to four-year institutions, they must consult with the transfer institution and with their respective KCKCC advisors before enrolling in order to determine the transferability of their courses. It is the student’s responsibility to determine the transferability of his/her courses.
College Requirement - All first time degree-seeking students who score 75 or above on the ACCUPLACER reading exam are required to take HUDV0100, Freshman Orientation (1 credit hour). All degree-seeking students who score below 75 on the ACCUPLACER reading exam will take HUDV 101, Strategies for Academic Excellence/Lifelong Learning (2 credit hours). (See exemptions)
