Addiction Counselor Course Descriptions
Dean: Dr. Chuck Wilson
Program Coordinator: Dr. Thomas Hall
Combining traditional, theoretical, and experiential learning, the Addiction Counselor Program offers students the opportunity to grow personally and professionally. KCKCC's open learning environment, with scheduling and advising tailored to needs of both working professionals and traditional students, allows students the opportunity to develop personalized styles for the active learner.
Through satisfactory completion, students gain education and skills required of professional counselors, with course work geared toward the National Exam. Our program meets Kansas Social and Rehabilitative Services' Addiction and Prevention Services (AAPS) certification requirements and those of the state of Missouri. Degreed individuals may pursue a certificate program through core addiction counseling courses in Addiction Studies.
Program applicants include individuals desiring to obtain their first degree, counselors working in a treatment facility, private practice, juvenile or adult probation/parole officers, counselors in mental health or community agencies, employee assistance professionals, or coordinators of substance abuse prevention services, as well as counselors or teachers in secondary and post secondary educational institutions.
Note: Students should observe the "See course description" footnotes that appear throughout the following programs. Many courses in these programs have prerequisites.
