Placement Information

Your academic success is important at KCKCC. An important step in helping you succeed includes enrolling you in classes appropriate to your current level of knowledge. Therefore, all new students who wish to enroll in credit classes are required to complete the KCKCC placement tests. If you have a previous college degree or have completed your college math and English requirements, you should check with the Academic Resource Center, 913-288-7171, or the KCKCC-Leavenworth Center (913) 651-2111 for advice on the testing requirement in your case. Please note that these tests are for placement purposes only, and the results will have no effect on your acceptance as a student at KCKCC. However, you must file your application for admission prior to taking the tests. There is no charge for taking the test and all materials including pencils will be provided for you. A photo ID is required, and you will be asked to furnish your Social Security number.

The placement test process takes approximately 2 hours. The test includes sections on reading, sentence skills and elementary algebra. English for Speaker of Other Languages students may take four ESL tests in addition to the non-ESL placement tests and may take more than 2 hours to complete the tests.

Study guides to aid you in preparing for the tests are available in the Academic Resource Center, Rm. 3344, Paul Jewell Student Center and at KCKCC-Leavenworth Center.

APPOINTMENTS ARE NOT REQUIRED to take placement test on Campus: Monday – Thursday 8:00 am – 11:00 am and 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm or Leavenworth Center: Monday – Thursday 7:30 am – 7:30 pm, Friday 7:30 am -3:00 pm and Saturday 8:00 am -10:00 am.

During Regular Enrollment Days, the test is administered continually and appointments are not necessary.
