This program prepares students to work in child care centers, pre-schools, hospital infant care centers, recreation centers or family child care homes. Students receive hands-on training through lab experience at the Kansas City Kansas Early Childhood Center (KCKECC). USD 500 students will be transported between the TEC and the KCKECC for lab courses. All other students are responsible for their own transportation to and from the lab site. Students must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Prerequisites include Kansas Dept. of Health assessment and negative TB test results.
All students will attend either a morning session or an afternoon session of courses. Successful students will receive the TEC Early Childhood Education Certificate which meets the Kansas licensing regulations for child care providers in a child care center or family child care home. At the completion of the program, students may apply for the national Child Development Associate (CDA) credential.
Upon successful completion of the TEC certificate in Early Childhood Education, students may transfer their credits to the Associate in Applied Science in Early Childhood Education at the main campus of KCKCC. They will then continue coursework at KCKCC to earn 51-52 additional credits to earn the AAS.
