Telecourses

For students who need flexible class schedules, telecourses may provide a solution. Telecourses are academically rigorous courses that combine stimulating and informative television programs with challenging textbooks and other materials.

The primary difference between telecourses and traditionally taught courses is the manner in which instruction is delivered. Traditional students generally go to campus several times a week for direct instruction by faculty. In contrast, telecourse students study more independently, watching the television programs and reading the print materials on their own, from home or the workplace. The convenience and flexibility of learning "at a distance" allows adult learners to work towards a college degree while juggling jobs and family responsibilities.

Most telecourses are developed by the nation's respected and experienced colleges, public television stations, and independent producers. Many are based on PBS prime-time series while others are developed solely for educational purposes.

Telecourses require self-discipline and take time to accomplish, so students must examine their personal obligations carefully before deciding to enroll in classes. An additional $20 fee has been added to telecourses to cover the cost of tape duplication. For further information, call (913) 288-7669.
