Repeating Courses
Students can repeat courses for the purpose of raising their grade-point average only if a grade of D or F is earned in a class. However, if a grade of C or better is earned in the class, students need special permission from the Registrar to repeat the course, unless students plan to audit the course. Repeating a course with a grade of C or better eliminates students from graduating with honors.
When a course is repeated, the newly earned grade cancels, but does not remove, the previous grade recorded on the transcript. The new grade is used to figure the cumulative grade-point average. A course may not be repeated more than twice.
Repeating a course is not allowed merely for GPA enhancement.
Occasionally, at the instructor's discretion, a student may be required to repeat a course in its entirety if an incomplete grade was earned in the class.
Specialized programs may require students to re-enroll in a course if it was taken more than 10 years ago in science fields (the Nursing Education Program specifies 7 years) and/or if the coordinator requires repeating the course for refresher purposes.
