New Students

For admission to the College, new students need to complete the following steps:

  1. Complete an application form and return it to the Admissions and Records Office
  2. Provide, after graduation, an official high school transcript (students who graduated at least five years ago or have earned 24 college credits do not need high school transcripts on file); Non-degree seeking students must provide transcripts if the course they are taking requires a prerequisite.
  3. Provide official college transcripts (non-degree seeking students with a bachelor's degree or higher may disregard this requirement); students are responsible for contacting the institutions they have attended and requesting that their transcripts be mailed directly to the KCKCC Admissions and Records Office;
  4. Determine residency (Kansas law requires students to live in the state of Kansas for six consecutive months with an intent to stay, to be considered a resident);
  5. Complete the Required Placement Exam as adopted by the Kansas City Kansas Board of Trustees on June 12, 2001.

MATHEMATICS

MISSION

The mission of the Department of Mathematics is to support the College mission (1) by providing general education courses in mathematics for transfer programs and career programs and (2) by providing developmental mathematics courses that prepare students for college level mathematics. The focus is on facilitating learning experiences so students can maximize their learning of mathematics. Interwoven into mathematics classes are activities based on 21st century learning outcomes: communication, computation, community learning, critical thinking/problem solving, information management, interpersonal learning, personal learning, and technology.

Enrollment in Mathematics Courses
The mathematics curriculum is designed to enable students to progress from a review of basic arithmetic skills through upper level mathematics courses designed to transfer to four-year colleges and universities. Transfer credit depends upon the requirements at the institution to which students plan to transfer. Students should check these requirements carefully.

The Board of Trustees in conjunction with the Mathematics Department has adopted mandatory placement criteria in order to ensure student success. Use the Mandatory Placement Criteria to choose the appropriate entry level mathematics course.
