Foreign Language Requirements and Options

Foreign language study is required of most liberal arts majors and recommended in many vocational areas. Students should consider continuing any modern language they have previously studied and are encouraged to complete a minimum of 10 hours. Students with no foreign language experience are advised to begin taking courses in the fall semester of their freshman year

At KCKCC foreign language courses are infused with cultural content from the humanities and social sciences. By furnishing students with comparative perspectives on history, philosophy, society, and art, foreign language courses contribute significantly to our multicultural awareness and to higher order thinking. The courses help hold the human community together, both globally and locally.

Many students in career programs recognize the need for foreign language training at some point in the future. More and more of our businesses and industries are becoming involved in the international marketplace. Students who have skills in foreign languages may very well find themselves in a position to excel in the changing economy.

Foreign language study is no longer just for students going on to four-year colleges and foreign language majors. An indispensable tool of modern life, learning a foreign language should be a part of every community college student's education.
