Degree Requirements
Students who maintain a consecutive enrollment and successfully complete at least one class during each semester (excluding Summer Sessions) graduate under the KCKCC General College Catalog degree requirements for the academic year they entered the College.
Students who have interrupted their enrollment for more than one semester graduate under the college catalog with degree requirements for the academic year they re-enter the College.
Additional Requirements
Students seeking an Associate Degree from the College must complete a degree check and have an application for graduation on file with the Counseling Office. In addition, students need to meet the following requirements:
- complete all general education requirements for their degree; Bachelors degrees, masters degrees and doctorates earned at regionally accredited colleges and universities will be honored as fulfilling Kansas City Kansas Community College general education core requirements.
- complete a minimum of 60 academic credit hours and meet all degree requirements;
- complete college exit exam;
- All first time degree-seeking students who score 75 or above on the Accuplacer reading exam will take HUDV 100, College Orientation.
All degree-seeking students who score below 75 on the Accuplacer reading exam will take HUDV 101, Strategies for Academic Excellence/Lifelong Learning.
Exemptions:
- A student already has a college degree.
- A student from another institution who is enrolling only in summer courses.
- A student is only enrolled in Wellness, Workforce Development, or refresher courses.
- A transfer student with 30 or more college credit hours.
- Students taking Honors Tutorial I as Presidential Scholarship recipients.
If a student does not meet one of the exemptions listed above and wishes to appeal the requirement of completing the course, the student will need to obtain the approval of the chief academic officer.
Recommendation: Complete this course within the first 15 credit hours of college enrollment. This requirement must be completed by all students entering the college during or after the Fall semester of 1998.
- maintain an overall cumulative grade-point average of 2.00;
- complete the last 10 credit hours of their degree at KCKCC;
- complete the 15 credit hours in residency requirement at KCKCC;
- complete three credit hours at KCKCC during the semester the degree is granted;
- apply no more than 30 credit hours of nontraditional studies credit to graduation requirements;
- earn only one degree or certificate in a semester; and
- approved programs completed at a Kansas Area Vocational Technical School apply as credit hours only toward an Associate in General Studies degree at KCKCC and cannot be applied toward a second degree.
All students working towards an Associate in Arts, an Associate in Science, and an Associate in General Studies are required to complete Composition I and II, Public Speaking, and Strategies for Academic Excellence/Lifelong Learning. Students working toward an Associate in Applied Science may substitute Technical Writing as specified in the degree requirements. Proper prerequisites must be observed unless they are waived by the Provost.
