Paramedic Mobile Intensive Care Technician (MICT)

The Mobile Intensive Care Technician Program is designed to prepare individuals to successfully fulfill the responsibilities of an independently functioning Mobile Intensive Care Technician (Paramedic). The program will provide students with opportunities to gain information, skills and attitudes necessary to perform the duties of a Mobile Intensive Care Technician in a safe and competent manner. Stringent adherence to state-mandated regulations is required. Activities in the program help students to achieve the 21st Century outcomes of communication, computation, community service and learning, critical thinking/problem solving and interpersonal learning.
Participants in the program are expected to develop competencies in Cognitive Skills, Psychomotor Skills, and in the Affective Domain.
Cognitive Competencies
Upon successful completion of the program, the participant will demonstrate the ability to comprehend, apply, and evaluate the clinical information relative to his role as an entry level Mobile Intensive Care Technician/Paramedic
Psychomotor Competencies
Upon successful completion of the program, the participant will demonstrate technical proficiency in all skills necessary to fulfill the role of the entry level Mobile Intensive Care Technician/Paramedic.
Affective Competencies
Upon successful completion of the program, the participant will demonstrate personal behaviors and attitudes consistent with the professional and employer expectations standards for entry level Mobile Intensive Care Technicians, recognizing each patient as a unique and valued member of our society.
Program Description
The Mobile Intensive Care Technician Training Program will incorporate a variety of teaching strategies and learning opportunities for participants including but not limited to: lectures, skill training sessions, demonstrations, simulated patient scenarios, hospital clinical experience, field internship experience, and computer-enhanced opportunities. The purpose of the training program is to provide the participant with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively function as a certified Mobile Intensive Care Technician.
This MICT training program is divided into ten (10) individual classes. Students are admitted to the program and begin classes each fall. The program, consisting of the following ten classes, takes approximately 21 months to complete.

DUE TO KANSAS BOARD OF EMERGENCY MEDICAL SERVICES REQUIREMENTS, NO LATE ENROLLMENT IS ALLOWED AND FIRST DAY ATTENDANCE IS MANDATORY.
Due to the limited number of spaces available in the program, entry is by a selective admission process. Completed applications must be postmarked by April 30 of each year for admission to the next fall's class. To get more information about application procedures, contact the program Director.
There are 2 program options within the MICT Program. Two options lead to degrees from Kansas City Kansas Community College.

is for those students who seek only MICT coursework and do not already have a degree. |

is for those students who wish to obtain a degree that includes basic fire science classes with the MICT Program. |
There are 3 program pre-requisites that are common to both options. You must have EMT-Basic certification and one of the following biology courses and EMTC0101:

EMTC0101 Applied Math for EMS
3 hours credit
EMTC0101 is an introductory course in pharmaceutical arithmetic that assists students in solving the mathematics of drugs and solutions encountered in the everyday routine of administering medications. Drug actions and interactions on the human body are discussed.
