...."While there's life, there's hope"... (Terence)
"If you have no confidence in self you are twice defeated in the race of life. With confidence you have won even before you have started..." (Marcus Garvey)
Greetings, I am Melanie Jackson, Coordinator and Instructor. I coordinate the Long Term Care Administration Program (Nursing Home Management). I also teach courses in the social science division; Sociology, Human Sexuality and my specialty, the Grieving Process course. The Grieving Process course is a death education course which really teaches us how to live more fully; death can be the ultimate prioritizer, teaching us the value of not only each day, but the value and significance of relationships.
I've been employed by the community college since 1982. I enjoy teaching it allows me the opportunity to be enhanced by many lives... the Students! I use a personable approach in facilitating knowledge. I'm "student centered". I challenge, encourage, support, integrate and facilitate a variety of perspectives geared toward developing and enhancing the minds of students.
I have been involved in many professional associations, organizations and committees, however some of my greatest professional accomplishments have been in the urban community; through my work and relationship with the dying, oppressed, disenfranchised and through social advocacy for women and children. Giving hope and a sense of wholeness whether it involves the Aids Council, shelter for battered women or my involvement with United Methodist Women has given me numerous opportunities for growth and a greater appreciation toward humanity....
