LISTEN TO THE
CROWING OF THE ROOSTER

I am a philosopher and educator by vocation. I was formed by the European tradition for which the Owl was the token of Wisdom, the vehicle of knowledge throughout the ages. It was that contemplative bird which, as Hegel used to say, showed us how to reflect on human events at twilight.
But I am also a historian and internationalist by training, who has had the opportunity of travelling to and living in distant places. I believe that, although knowledge and wisdom may still come from the West and the East, the future belongs to the Americas. We live in a diverse and multicultural world. It is no surprise then that the new symbol for us is the Rooster: the bird who always announces a new day.
