IGBO Strategic Direction

October 15, 2007
Time for ACTION!!!!

Dear Igbo Intellectual,

The Nigerian condition today has become too dangerous for Igbo academics and intellectuals worldwide to continue to remain silent. Our children face an uncertain future in a prebendal, political system which does not secure Igbo right to life, liberty, equality, justice and happiness. For how long do we abandon our destiny in the hands of the otapiapia - an elitist political machine?

After reading Chinualumogu Achebe’s Things Fall Apart, one witnesses the events by which the Igbo society begins to fall apart. Our ancestral way of life is threatened; Umuofia loses its soul and freedom. Literarily, Things Fall Apart is a story of the demise of Okonkwo. But it is also, a record of Igbo life before the coming of the British imperium. It chronicles what colonialism has destroyed. It is a way of life that no longer exists.

Similarly, documenting the injustices of slavery, Olaudah Equiano, a 15th century Eboe slave laments over the spirit of 10 Eboe men and women [which] remained restless for over 200 years. There is a continuum in the culture of Igbo exclusion and insecurity from the Trans-Atlantic-Slave era until now within the Lugardian amalgam.

This email is A CALL TO ACTION. It is also an invitation to become a member of Ozoemena. If you receive this email, you must have been nominated by an anonymous Igbo intellectual who is aware of your outstanding scholarship and wisdom.

The mission of Ozoemena is to develop a strategic agenda for the future of Ndigbo. Without an Igbo strategic framework of action or manifesto to guide present and future leaders and our nation, the quest for the fulfillment of our manifest destiny will continue to elude the land of the rising sun. Please confirm you wish to become a member of Ozoemena. Membership is limited to only twelve talented Igbo academics and intellectuals.  THERE COMES A TIME IN THE HISTORY OF A PEOPLE WHEN PROLONGED SILENCE OVER INJUSTICE ACQUIRES A SUPERFICIAL STATUS OF LEGITIMACY.

Ya Gazie!
