Generic Syllabus

Mr. Don Alsdurf is Associate Professor/Coordinator of the Criminal Justice Program within the Social Science Division. In addition to directing this program, Don teaches many of the programs courses to include: Criminal Law 1/11, Criminal Investigation 1/11, Criminology, Police Organization and Administration and Introduction to Criminal Justice.

Don has a comprehensive background in criminal justice as a Military Police and Military Intelligence Officer in the United States Army. His over 24 years of law enforcement experience includes duties as a command level officer in charge of Patrol, Investigations and Special Tactical Divisions; an instructor at the US Army Military Police School in hostage negotiations and counter-terrorism; Commanding Officer of the 12th Military Police Training Company; Assistant Division Provost Marshal (Chief of Police) for the 7th Infantry Division, Fort Ord California; Operations Officer and later a Deputy Commander within the Intelligence and Security Command of the National Security Agency (NSA); Deputy Chief of Security for the United States Transportation Command; Professor and as an author at the United States Army Command and General Staff College. Don retired as a Lieutenant Colonel on November 1, 1999.

Don has extensive training in all facets of police administration and operations, patrol, corrections and investigations. He is a trained hostage negotiator and a terrorism-counteraction specialist. He is a Department of Defense recognized subject matter expert in nuclear and conventional physical security, as well as personal protective services operations. Don's extensive experience includes assignments within or working in conjunction with such agencies as the US Department of Defense, US Army Training and Doctrine Command, US Army Military Police School and Center, the National Security Agency (NSA), Central Intelligence agency (CIA), Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), Office of Special Investigations (OSI), Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), United States Transportation Command, US Army Criminal Investigation Division, and the United States Army Intelligence and Security Command. Don currently is a Special Investigator under contract with the Department of Homeland Security, representing US Customs and Border Protection and Immigration and Customs Enforcement.

Don has received his Associates Degree in Criminal Justice, Bachelors Degree in Sociology and Masters Degree in Management. In addition, he is a graduate of both the National Defense University where he studied international, joint and Phase II combined military operations, and the US Army Command and General Staff College where he studied military applied science with concentrations in strategic and operational tactics, logistics management, organizational development, planning and problem solving, and criminal and administrative law.

Awards received by Don are both varied and many. He has received over 10 separate commendation and meritorious service awards from the Department of Defense, as well as awards for Emergency Medical Service from the State of Illinois and the J. Edgar Hoover (FBI) Memorial Award for Distinguished Service. Additionally, at the direction of the President of the United States and Approved by Congress, Don was awarded the Soldiers Medal for Heroism in 1994.

Publications authored by Don include "Training Management for the Reserve Components", Readiness Group Selfrige, 1987; "Welcome to the Reserve Component", TAACOM Video Media, 4th US Army, 1989; "The Command and General Staff College Preparatory Course", Is' edition (1996), 2nd edition," (1998), and numerous training and administrative manuals and booklets.
