The Susqesentinial of the creation of Kanzas Territory will occur in 2004. Our hope is that all territorial newspapers can be reproduced digitally for the celebration. This project will stimulate and enhance the ability of anyone to make connections between persons, political parties, early cultural practices and events during the territorial period. To see a list of these papers please click on the words "Territorial Papers" in the left column in red letters.
Reading, indexing and trascribing issues from your hometown or home county territorial newspaper can be one of the most fulfilling and historically important public services for any Kanzan. Our KCKCC honors students have paved the way by creating a demonstration project still in progress. To learn how you can produce a similar digital recreation of your newspaper click on the words "Re-create the News" in the left column in red letters.
To be useful, Kanzas history must be brought back to life and made accessible to researchers and the public. Your organization, (Geneological Society, Historical Society, Service Organization, or interested persons), can help all Kanzan's rediscover our rich past by creating searchable indexs and transcribed copies of original newspapers from this traumatic and significant period in American History. Kansas City Kansas Community College will offer you server space at no charge as a public service, if you will produce the indexs and transcriptions of territorial newspapers. A model for our project can be easily accessed by clicking on the word "Chindowan" at left in red letters.
