Emergency Medical Responder

The Emergency Medical Responder (EMR) course prepares students to test for their National Registry and State of Kansas EMR written and practical exams leading to national and state certification. Emergency Medical Responders provide immediate on scene care until EMS transport services arrive. This course is ideal for firefighters, law enforcement personnel, athletic trainers, emergency response team members in the industrial setting, and emergency management personnel. Completing the EMR course with a “C” or higher meets pre-requisition requirements for admission into the KCKCC EMT course. Within the course students develop Basic Life Support skills proficiency; learn to work within a team environment; develop effective communication skills across a diverse set of situations and cultures; and develop effective analytical and critical thinking skills to make appropriate decisions in critical and noncritical situations.

The EMR curriculum can be rigorous and requires dedicated time for attendance and study. Students are expected to attend at least five (5) hours of class each week; other times outside the class may be required for additional practice.

  1. Must meet the admission requirements of Kansas City Kansas Community College. (See college website at KCKCC.EDU).
