Academics

As Vice President for Academic Affairs, I want to thank you for your interest in Kansas City Kansas Community College. Regardless of your academic goal, KCKCC has a program that will help you reach that goal, whether your goal is to enter a certificate program and move quickly into the job market, to transfer to a four-year institution, or pick-up additional training to help earn a promotion or raise with your current employer.

KCKCC offers affordable educational opportunities. Class sizes are small which gives each student the opportunity to know and work directly with our highly qualified faculty. You will find the faculty at KCKCC experts in their field, approachable, and willing to spend extra time working with their students to increase the chances of the students succeeding.

Here are just a few of the highlights KCKCC has to offer. Our Technical Education Centers are second to none. At one of our three Tech Centers you can pick an area of study from our more than 50 high-demand career and technical programs designed to get students into the workforce. Students at KCKCC can also select from over 45 degree programs designed to transfer to four-year institutions.

How do you get started? It all begins with our Admission and Records office which will process your application and get you enrolled. Think you may need help paying for classes and books? Our Financial Aid office is here to help and you should check out the scholarships available through our Endowment Association.

Once admitted and enrolled, KCKCC has the resources to help you select a career path and make certain you are taking the correct courses. Our Workforce and Entrepreneurial Center can help you narrow down the many choices available to you. Need help determining what courses to take? Academic Advising is there to assist you to make sure you are taking the proper courses in the right sequence. Once you are enrolled and taking those classes our Academic Resources Center is here to assist you build your academic skills.

College is more than just going to class and being successful. It is important to get involved in extra-curricular activities. Our debate team has won eleven straight Phi Rho Pi national championships (a head-to-head competition among community colleges nationwide), and our Honors/Phi Theta Kappa chapter annually ranks among the top 25 internationally. The Student Activities office provides a wide range of activities for students in be involved in and to attend and enjoy. KCKCC fields ten intercollege athletic teams five each for men and women, which are great sources of student entertainment.

KCKCC has a lot to offer – but the main thing we offer is friendly, personalized service. As VP of Academics, I want you to know that I have an open door policy. I welcome student (and faculty and staff) to come by and say hello.

Academic Programs

Computer Information Systems Technology

The Department of Computer Engineering Technology is committed to meeting the needs of the students through excellence in teaching. Department courses are designed to provide students with the knowledge, ability, skills, and the critical thinking (deductive reasoning) they will need to enter the modern today’s workplace. Students complete an intensive study of hardware/software subjects, and related skills in this program. The program offers a pathway for students pursuing a baccalaureate degree or a vocational program for students wishing to seek more immediate employment in the computer field. In addition, a one-year certificate is granted for students wishing to enhance their career opportunities in the computer field.

Connect with others in our local entrepreneurial community and learn about our new Entrepreneurship Certificate of Completion, designed to help launch companies and accelerate growth.

Partnering with the Kauffman Foundation and the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative, Kansas City Kansas Community College is pleased to announce the new for-credit Entrepreneurship Certificate of Completion utilizing curriculum from Kauffman’s FastTrac® Planning the Entrepreneurial Venture and Ice House -The Entrepreneurial Mindset.

  • Representatives from the Kauffman Foundation and the Entrepreneurial Learning Initiative will be on hand to discuss their innovative entrepreneurial programs
  • Kauffman FastTrac graduates will share their experiences and entrepreneurial pathways toward success - visit with Chris Rosburg with CR Promotions, Stephens Consulting Enterprises, and other FastTrac graduates
  • Local entrepreneurs will be available to talk with you individually
